What I do
Hey,
how are you :) ?
During you reading this lines I will rake around my tumor associated data to find some significant characteristics for general&individual genes within my dataset.
That’s the job of my PhD.
But to get this data, several steps was passed …text-mining, manual validation, comparison with reference datasets,...
Now I can look back and say, jap you got a solid, comprehensive dataset for tumor associated genes and important biological questions can be asked.
Are their genetic characteristics in those dataset in comparison to “normal” genes, or what’s about the regulatory elements? Do they share common or individual significant elements, like TATA boxes, CpG islands or even promoters? Hey and what’s happens if those tumor associated data will be connected to metabolic and signaling data, will this help to identify significant pathways, reactions or signaling cascades in cancer?
...puuh still a lot of work for me to do!
and you :) back to work!!!

Projects
My supervisor seems to be a magician in sharing and finding projects…
...and he got a lots of medical graduate students for which on the other hand then again I have to play supervisor in second command :)
so here is the top 5 of my projects:
doing my PhD (see “what you do” area) building up a database for northernblots building up a database for tumor associated genes developing a webfront end to access northernblot and tumor associated data; configuration/maintenance of the webserver.
- writing vast numbers of scripts, mainly in perl, to speed up medical soldiers work :D
