Ville Kujala's profile

I'm male and 25

What I do

I work as a researcher at Regea Institute for Regenerative Medicine.

I work in the Heart Group and do research on hESC -derived cardiomyocytes (hESC-CM) with microelectrode array (MEA) and other applications as well.

Interests

I’m interested in stem cell biology and -technology. Also, therapeutical applications of stem cells in general are interesting, but I’m especially interested in how hESCs differentiate into functioning cardiomyocytes and the possible ways to use them in pharmacotoxicological testing/applications and in repairing damaged cardiac tissue.

Projects

Currently I’m working with hESCs and studying their differentiation into cardiomyocyte lineage and their electrophysiological properties.

I did my Master’s thesis project in Regea’s Heart Group in which I compared the cardiomyocyte differentiation efficiency of several hESC lines.

I worked as a research assistant in the Heart Group at Regea in 2007. I did mainly quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) experiments to compare cardiac gene expression levels in hESC -derived cardiomyocytes (hESC-CM).
