Anthony Vernon's profile

I'm male and 28

What I do

Postdoctoral research fellow working on medical imaging of the pathology of neurodegenerative diseases, specifically Parkinson’s disease (PD) but also other Synucleinopathies such as Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB)and Parkinson’s disease with dementia (PDD). Additionally, I am involved in research into novel neuroprotective strategies for the treatment of these diseases.

Interests

Molecular pathology of neurodegerative disorders, medical imaging (MRI,PET and SPECT) of synucleinopathies including Parkinson’s disease (PD), Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB) and Parkinson’s disease with Dementia (PDD). Formation and role of alpha-synuclein inclusion bodies in neurodegeneration. Additionally, novel neuroprotective strategies and drug targets for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease including selective ligands for central metabotropic glutamate receptors.

Projects

1. Neuroprotection in animal models of Parkinson’s disease using selective metabotropic glutamate receptor ligands

2. Magnetic resonance imaging of disease pathology in experimental models of PD and DLB

3. Developing novel in vitro models of synucleinopathies

4.Developing novel in vivo models of DLB
