What I do
I’m here for fun rather than work – and type in a personal capacity, with the exception of my R&D Society postings.
I work at the Royal Society, where I run the Royal Society Prizes for Science Books (formerly the Rhone Poulenc or Aventis Prizes), which are a, surprise surprise, major prize for popular science books written for adults and children. I also administer the Royal Society Kohn Award for Excellence in Engaging the Public with Science, and I look after the Research and Development Society, which seeks to make the UK the best environment for R&D through networking, projects and meetings.
