Interests

My name is Raymond Maximo. I am a masters graduate student at the Geology and Environmental Geosciences Department of Northern Illinois University.
Currently, I am at NIU on a Teaching Assistant Fellowship. I am teaching Geology 121, Introductory Geology lab course.
I am also a Science Research Specialist at the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (but on-study leave at the moment). Our office is the one responsible in monitoring various activities of all the identified active volcanoes and active faults in the Philippines.

Projects

My interest is on the study of magma associated with volcanic eruptions. My research will focus on the role of pre-eruptive water contents and volatile concentrations in the magma using melt inclusions from olivine or pyroxene in Mayon Volcano. Finally, my research will try to correlate the pre-eruptive water/volatiles concentration with the explosivity of the eruptions.
