What I do

I am a PhD student doing research in linguistics, particularly syntax and semantics of natural language. Very broadly speaking, I study how words (morphemes) are put together in order to compose complex meanings. The background assumption is that there is a mental system that consists of a set of fundamental linguistic and/or cognitive principles. On the one hand, this system significantly constrains the possible forms of natural languages, on the other hand, it is crucial for the efficiency in building complex thoughts/meanings.

Interests

Within syntax and semantics, I am exploring the range of possible denotations of wh-words across languages. I am interested in questions, relative clauses, focus constructions, clefts, exclamatives, exisential constructions, quantification, etc.
