Interests
My research interests lie in the field of NITRIC OXIDE (NO) and free radical biology. I am fascinated by the diverse range of physiological and pathophysiological actions of NO in the cardiovascular, immune, reproductive and nervous systems.

Projects
In the cardiovascular system, nitric oxide (NO) is enzymatically synthesised by endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), a mediator of vascular homeostasis and endothelial dysfunction in vascular disease states. Nitric oxide synthase is regulated by the bioavailability of its cofactor, tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4). Under conditions of limited BH4 availability, eNOS becomes enzymatically uncoupled and generates superoxide instead of NO, leading to oxidative stress. My current research is aimed at further our understanding of the relatioship between NOS/BH4 using novel tetracycline (TET)-regulatable cell lines.
