Interests
During my PhD, I studied the ecophysiological changes of microbial mats (microbial biofilms that are thought to be similar to the first ecosystems that evolved on Earth) by means of lipid and DNA analyses. During those years I made some collaboration with the Center for Biomarker Analysis in Knoxville (TN) and the UFZ Centre for Environmental Research (Germany) where I learned more lipid-based techniques. Then, I worked as a postdoc in University of Massachusetts (Amherst) where I studied gene expression regulation of anaerobic microorganisms and methods for detecting their activity in the environment.
Now I’m a postdoctoral fellow in Harvrad FAS System Biology (Bauer lab) in Dr. Irene A. Chen group. My project is focused on the role of molecular constraints on the host spectrum of bacteriophages. The study of the host specificity of bacteriophages is a great model system in terms of molecular evolution but also for the potential use of phages as an alternative to antibiotics.
