Interests
My passion is learning about how single molecules go about their daily business. In particular, the biophysics of membrane proteins such as ion channels and transporters. These nanomachines respond to their various stimuli by changing conformation, which ultimately gives rise to a functional consequence (usually ion flow through the protein). I’m fascinated by the specificity, precision and speed in which these finely-tuned machines operate and never tire of watching these conformational changes in real time during single-channel recordings.
