Interests
I am interested in the intersection of phylogenetics and genomics, particularly in the microbial realm. In order to explore this intersection, I have lead genome projects, contributed work to the genome projects of others, performed global phylogenetic analyses and created tools and pipelines to speed such analyses. I’m also starting to get involved in metagenomics projects.
Projects
Genomes
- Haloferax volcanii — Archaeal model organism
- Thermodesulfobacterium commune — thermophilic bacterium
- Thermodesulfovibrio yellowstonii — thermophilic bacterium
- Teredinibacter turnerae — bacterial endosymbiont of ship worm
- Phaeocystis globosa — eukaryotic (haptophyte) plankton
- Streptomyces turgidiscabies — bacterial agent of potato scab
Tools
- APIS — Automated Phylogenetic Inference System
- ECFinder — annotates genome in a phylogenomic manner
Other
- Positive selection in Geobacter species
- Positive selection and phylogeny in Influenza B viruses
- Global Ocean Survey
