What I do

Since September, 2001 I am member of the Computational Genomics Program at the Center for Genomic Sciences, UNAM. I have been involved in the topological analisis of the transcriptional regulatory network (TRN) of Escherichia coli K-12. I have developed a novel algorithm to identify all the feedback loops existing in a network. Recently, based on topological features, I have developed a novel methodology to identify global transcription factors, to isolate topological modules, to identify intermodular genes, and to infer the hierarchical organization of the TRN of E. coli. Currently, this approach has shown to have strong predictive power on the TRN of Bacillus subtilis. Also, I am involved in the topological analysis of metabolic networks in order to identify organizational principles and in the dynamical modeling of the cell from a systems biology perspective.

In the academia, I have participated actively in the development of syllabus, in the fields of computation and systems biology, for the Undergraduate Programme on Genomic Sciences, UNAM. I have been lecturer for the Programming Principles, Programming I, and Systems Biology courses.

Interests

My research interests include the study of the topological organization, dynamical behaviour and evolution of complex biological networks in order to identify organizational and design principles governing them. Furthermore, I am interested in the computational modeling of the cell, and the use of high-throughput experiments to develop/validate theoretical hypothesis.
