Jaap Jansen's profile
I'm male and 29
What I do
I am appointed as a Research Fellow within the departments of Medical Physics and Radiology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
I use quantitative MRI techniques (1H-MRS & DCE MRI) in patients with head/neck cancer.
We use these MRI techniques to hopefully: 1) aid diagnosis of Head and Neck cancer and 2) find early predictors of (chemo and radiation) treatment response.

Projects
Since my major in biophysical chemistry in 2000, I’ve been mainly interested in nuclear magnetic resonance, and its ‘brother’ MRI.
So while I started out as undergraduate student in chemistry, using NMR to elucidate the 3D characteristics of proteins, I’m now mainly using MRI. For my PhD (biomedical engineering) I studied patients with epilepsy, and now I’m investigating patients with head and neck cancer.
Summary:
Postdoctoral Fellow: Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (2008-current)
Postdoctoral Fellow: Maastricht University Hospital / Epilepsy Centre Kempenhaeghe (2007-2008)
Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering: Eindhoven University of Technology / Maastricht University Hospital (2002-2007)
M.Sc. in Chemistry from Radboud University, Nijmegen (1997-2002)
