Currently, I work as a PhD student at the University of Helsinki, in a collaboration project between the Departments of Computer Science and Medical Genetics and the national public health institute KTL. My thesis, which is about a year from completion, will be about the use of clustering methods and specifically mixture model clustering in the analysis of complex disease phenotypes—what it can do, what it cannot do, and what needs to be taken into account when using this kind of unsupervised methods.

In my free time, I do a bit of gardening in my tiny yard, play computer games (EVE Online), take classes in classical ballet, and read. I also try to make it a habit of taking a longer vacation every year to travel Somewhere Completely Different.
