James Millington's profile

What I do

I have received BSc and PhD degrees in Geography, and an MSc in Environmental Monitoring and Modelling, from King’s College, London. My research background is landscape ecology and geography, with specific focus on the integration of socio-economic processes into models of ecological succession-disturbance dynamics. My PhD research examined the impact of potential human-caused land use/cover change on ecological patterns and processes (predominantly wildfire) in a Mediterranean landscape by using a spatially-explicit simulation model. In 2007 I began work on the development of an ecological-economic model of a managed forest landscape as Visiting Research Associate at Michigan State University.

Projects

My current research focus is the development of an ecological-economic model of a managed forest landscape. Based in the Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability, this project involves modellers, ecologists, economists, foresters, managers and local land-owners to examine management and policy options.
