What I do
During my master’s in the University of Helsinki, I specialiced in neurobiology, especially in in vitro electrophysiology.
The past one and a half years I’ve been combining the neurobiological background to cognitive neurosciences in my PhD project in the University of Amsterdam.
I am virtually undutchable, but to prove my high degree of integration to the Dutch society, I am even ready to eat raw herring. My favorite leisure time activities (and ways to shake off the stress) are travelling, dancing and enjoying music.

Interests
Our knowledge of the genome of humans and other mammalian species has been rapidly increasing, but relatively little is known yet about the functions of these genes in cognitive processes, such as
learning and memory. My PhD project aims to elucidate the mechanisms of memory and learning processes by characterizing the neurophysiological correlates of learning and memory consolidation and mapping chromosomal loci that correlate with behavioural-cognitive abnormalities. Further on, genes or sets of genes which play a role in neurological and psychiatric conditions affecting especially memory and learning are identified, thus increasing our understanding on genotypic-phenotypic interactions involved in cognitive processes.

Projects
Behavioral screening of recombinant inbred (BxD) mouse lines by conditioning tasks to trace chromosomal areas that attribute to learning and memory processes.
Ensemble electrophysiology in awake, behaving mice to characterize the neurophysiological basis of cognitive dysfunctions, with emphasis on memory and learning deficits.
