I am Chairman of Friends of Imperial College which organises lectures and visits to the College for people interested in the latest developments in science, technology and medicine.

We have recently been inviting sixth formers to appropriate lectures in a bid to excite their interest in and inform them about science.

Previous speakers include, Professor Dame Julia Polak on tissue engineering, Professor John Gruzelier on cognitive neuroscience, Professor Steven Bloom on the “Hunger Hormone”, Dr Susan Searle talking on innovation, Professor Richard Kitney on imaging, Dr Olivia Judson on the evolution of female promiscuity, Professor Igor Aleksander about the emerging mind, Sir John Pendry on invisible materials, Professor Lewis Wolpert on ‘belief’, and Dr Simon Singh on Big Bang.
