Interests
I have joined the team of nutritional metabonomics at Nestle Research Center, Switzerland in November 2006 as a research scientist.
I used to be a PhD student based in London, at the Department of Biomolecular Medicine, Imperial College London, UK.
I have investigated the effects of the gut microflora on the systemic and tissue-specific metabolic profiles of mammalian organism. The study was aimed at investigating the effects of live bacterial (probiotics) and oligosaccharides (prebiotics) supplementations on the gut microflora and metabolism, health and nutritional status of mice.
Through this experience, I acquired robust skills using NMR-based metabonomic techniques on biofluids (static and flow modes) and intact tissues (magic-angle-spinning NMR spectroscopy). I also applied UPLC-MS techniques to characterise the metabolic profile of intestinal fluids and tissue extracts.
I am also familiar with multivariate data analysis techniques such as principal components analysis and partial least squares analysis that I used for the comprehensive analysis of this complex set of data (NMR spectroscopic and LC-MS data) and integration with conventional microbiological data.
