Interests
All cells in developing organisms present a glycan signature to their environment. The molecular composition of this signature determines the type and efficiency of the cells interaction with other cells and with it’s extracellular environment. Relatively little is known of how cells control their glycan expression. Our goal is to understand the genetic and signaling mechanisms that guide glycan presentation. We are building comprehensive catalogues of glycans that are expressed by cells in developing Drosphila tissues. We are also generating new mutations that affect tissue-specific glycan expression in hopes of dissecting the relevant control mechanisms.
