What I do
Molecular Biotechnology Engineer from Universidad de Chile with a Master in Bioscience Enterprise from the University of Cambridge (2003). Throughout my career, I have acquired an invaluable experience in bio-businesses and technology transfer, both in Chile and in England. I have been a bio-entrepreneur, a business consultant and a business development manager at a public biotech company in the UK. After that, I returned to Chile to head the Business Development Operations of a large private research institute, Fundacion Ciencia para la Vida (FCV) in 2007.
FCV’s objective is to enhance Chile’s most competitive industries by developing biotechnology-based solutions (products or services) that make those industries more efficient, more productive and more flexible. I oversee all the business development operations of FCV ie. 12 R&D projects related to Mining, Agriculture, Aquaculture, Forestry and Healthcare. Our clients/partners are large multinational companies or renowned universities like BHP Billiton, Microsoft, Novartis, Roche, Institut Pasteur, UCSF, HMS, Medivation, Marine Harvest, etc.

Projects
Bionexa
Bionexa is a social network website that works as a virtual platform to promote knowledge and technology transfer between Spanish speaking researchers that live abroad and investigators and companies of scientific base that exist in their home countries.Bionexa started as most enterprises and adventures: as a result of a passionate discussion with my friend Filippo Pacciarini in an pub in England.
We realised there was a need to re-establish contact with the scientific developments that were taking place in Latin America, and motivated by the strong idea of contributing something back to where we came from we decided to develop a way to help spanish speaking researchers connect with each other. We currently have over 400 members and are working alongside Nature Network to increase the number of Latin American scientists present in NN.
Easter Island: the First Eco-efficient Island in the world
I am currently advising a leading Chilean Engineering Group firm on the biggest Eco-efficiency project that I am aware of in the world: Turning the famous Easter Island into the world’s first Eco-effcient territory. This project is just starting but I have been to Easter Island already and can tell you there is hope. -
