Interests
Accurately reconstructing past climate change and predicting future variability is one of society’s greatest challenges, which necessitates a multidisciplinary approach and international collaboration. Freshwater ecosystems are particularly sensitive to climate change, especially with regard to water quantity, quality and habitat loss, yet the magnitude and impact of climate on these ecosystems is uncertain.
Many of the key scientific debates focus on (i) regional expressions of past climate variability (ii) past human-climate interactions on vulnerable freshwater ecosystems, (iii) freshwater ecosystem resilience and response to future drivers of change.
My principal research goals directly address these themes through the use of palaeoecological approaches, and where appropriate modeling species responses to their environment using multivariate techniques
