What I do

I am a graduate student at University of Nebraska Medical Center, U.S.A. My graduate project deals with understanding the mechanism of antigen presentation by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules.

Interests

I am interested in understanding the molecular mechanism of antigen presentation by our immune cells and how tumor, viruses and other infectious pathogens try to hijack this complex pathway and survive in an immunized host.

Projects

I am pursuing Ph.D. in an immunology lab. The main focus of my lab research is to understand the complexity and intricaties of how an antigen is presented to an immune cells in order to generate an effective and rigorous immune response resulting in clearance of the infection. The pathway we are trying to understand focuses on the antigen presentation by MHC class I molecules.

My graduate work particularly focuses on understanding the role of a protein known as “Amyloid Precursor like Protein-2” a.k.a APLP2 in antigen presentation by MHC class I molecules.
We have found that in many tumors and in case of viral infection, the level of APLP2 in the cell is upregulated, which can modulate the functionality of MHC class I molecules both in terms of antigen presentation to immune cells and trafficking of these molecules to cell surface.

To investigate the role of APLP2 in regulation of antigen presentation by MHC class I molecules, I am using techniues such as CTL assay, biochemistry and molecular biology techniques, molecular modelling, mutational studies etc.
