Interests
Between classes and research, I am active in a variety of programs at ISU: president of ISU Atheist and Agnostic Society, co-founder and secretary of ISU Student Veterans of America, Senator for Interdepartmental Genetics on the Graduate and Professional Student Senate, and a member of Agriculture Graduate Students Club. I’m also the author of the Genetic Maize weblog where I discuss the scientific, ethical, and socio-political issues surrounding genetic engineering. I’m a also a contributor to the Clashing Culture weblog that discusses the intersection between religion and science.
Projects
My projects include examining changes in zeins (seed storage proteins) in transgenic maize and improving nutritional qualities of maize using genetic engineering and traditional breeding.
