Interests

My research centers on the study of the chemical activities of fungi in the environment. The subject area encompasses mycology, microbial ecology, plant pathology, biodeterioration and bioremediation. Many of the biological transformations that fungi achieve are of potential commercial value, both in their natural form (where fungi can be used as biological control agents- bio-pesticides ), or in a purified form as enzymes or natural products. In a purified form enyymic reactions have great potential for accelerated evolution programs, where we can improve and augment these reactions to increase their stability and speed as well as specificity Other aspects of my work include understanding the specificity and mode of action of fungal toxins active against both animal and plants

Projects

Biological control:use of DGGE, RFLP and SCCP to follow community changes in biological control experiments, enabling us to track induced community changes.
