As an in-house editor my primary job is to do initial scientific assessments of the submitted manuscripts. I reject papers directly from my desk, or recommend a decision to an executive/academic editor. Papers worth publishing are sent out for review. In this job I have realized that research can be very enjoyable, even sans benchwork!
