Ian Stewart's profile
What I do
My main duties (unlike most academics) are (1) public understanding of science (2) research. I have no undergraduate-related duties. Item (1) involves writing, broadcasting, and public lectures. Item (2) is focussed on dynamical systems and applications.

Interests
My main research is in nonlinear dynamics, especially dynamics with symmetry and relations to pattern formation. Current work centres on networks of dynamical systems, and applications to neuroscience and evolutionary biology.
Projects
(1) Continuing to develop a general framework for networks of coupled dynamical systems (“coupled cell systems”).
(2) Analysis of neural networks involved in the vestibular system and similar sensory systems.
