      I am currently in the second year of my first postdoctoral position at the University of Leeds, Institute of Membrane and Systems Biology.
      My research centres around the autonomic nervous system.

      Sympathetic preganglionic neurones (SPNs)of the thoracic spinal cord form the final common pathway from the CNS in regulation of sympathetic outflow. The activity of these neurones can be modulated by both descending and segmental neuronal pathways. A group of interneurones in the central autonomic area of the thoracic spinal cord impinge directly onto SPNs and thus may play a role in regulating sympathetic outflow. As little is known about the properties of these neurones I am currently using whole-cell patch-clamp techniques to observe their intrinsic properties to add to the immunohistochemical characterisation of these neurones also being undertaken in our lab.
      My previous work includes characterisation of responses of neurones in the brainstem nucleus tractus solitarius to various neuromodulators.
