What I do
I am involved in studying two different aspects of wheat biology: (i) structural genomics: studying structural [in terms of gene (both protein coding and non-coding RNA genes) content, repeat elements, etc.] and compositional (GC content using methylation filtration and Cot fractionation) differences in two different fractions (repeat and low-copy) of wheat genome, and (ii) applied genomics: including improvement of nutritional properties of wheat by rectifying some of its inherent problems like elimination of some of the gliadin proteins that cause celiac disease in humans and increasing its yield by targeting genes influencing grain number (CKX2) and grain weight.
