Matthew Polson's profile

I'm male and 34

What I do

I am a ruthenium polypyridyl chemist but I branch into other metals as well. I have studied many techniques to investigate these complexes including Raman spectroscopy, electrochemistry, absorption spectroscopy, spectroelectrochemistry, transient spectroscopies, X-ray crystallography, nmr, IR and emission spectroscopy.

Interests

I am interested in the use of ruthenium polypyridyl complexes as oxidation catalysts. More fundamentally I am interested in how the use of many different physical techniques can give not just a more complete, but more insightful view of a molecule.

Projects

In the past I have studied ruthenium complexes as antenna for light harvesting and investigated the nature of metal-metal interactions, Iridium complexes for use in LEDs and I am now working on a water oxidation catalyst.
