Interests
Right now I am studying the evolution of the symbiosis between species of fungi in the genus Amanita and the roots of trees. These fungi are frequently encountered in popular culture because of their deadly poisons (the death cap) or hallucinogenic properties (the fly agaric), but we know little about their biogeographic distributions, their ecology, or how they have changed through evolutionary time.
