• Science behind the scenes by steffi suhr

This is about people in science and those behind it: in science support, logistics, management, and publishing. Mostly marine and polar science-related, but now also with regular updates on the latest free electron laser technology!

      Thankfully, there’s web 2.0!

I just had one of those ‘wow, we’ve come a long way’ moments – a bit similar to that story with the kid ‘testing’ a walkman for a week that Cath pointed me to.

Don’t ask why, but I just googled the terms ‘1969 Antarctic’, and was presented with a list of really cool links. I liked one on the Long-Range Ice Outlook Antarctic 1969 from the US Military.

Why? Because first of all I was surprised that a record that old would be available online. And wow, what a difference to just selecting the ice shelf you want to see details of and adding a date in one of the online databases at the US National Snow and Ice Data Center.

Antarctic ice shelves – now go have a poke on the NSIDC website for other good stuff.
