Preparation for this year’s Summer Science Exhibition is well underway, with the exhibitors almost all completely ready for the 6pm kickoff tonight.
So naturally, thoughts turn to the important matters of who has the best freebie.
My favourite so far? Leeds Met’s Can electrical stimulation of the skin reduce pain? exhibit has promotional plasters. Memorable and appropriate!
What’s your favourite conference or exhibition freebie?
I quite liked the squeezable universe stress ball from the LHC guys and who can forget the free black hole ringtones from the people on the “can we hear balck holes collide?” stand, cosmic!
Free ringtone? oooh.
I still have my Beagle 2 callsignal ringtone from many years ago (and the same phone to play it on).
I wonder how many science ringtones there have been?
Hi Scott,
I liked the handmade badge I got at the Hyperbolic Crochet symposium a couple of weeks ago. Each one had a different bit of crochet attached and we got to pick our favourite. We never have as much fun making conference badges at ICMS!
I got a squeezy brain stress ball at a neurology conference. I can now painlessly demonstrate such feelings as ‘banging my head against a wall’.
Of course, you’re doing well to get any freebies at all at medical conferences these days.
I have a squishy cow from Gibco, advertising Fetal Bovine Serum. On its side it says “Buy Canadian FBS!” and it’s just so macabre to advertise local cow blood on a cow toy – I love it!
I also recently got two syringe-shaped pens, to add to my apparent blood-themed freebie collection.
