Caffeine-driven thoughts of a forest ecologist

    • Wild coffee

After the summer course on Forest Mapping, Inventory and Classification I thought for VLIR IUC-JU at Jimma University earlier this month, I found some time to hunt for wild coffee.

After some serious mudhiking, which involved wading more-than-knee-deep through a wetland and crossing a swollen river, our party found this very rare huge coffee plant (they are usually shrubs) near Gera, in a part of the forest where according to these two farmers no ferenji had come before.
