    • Debating science in the US presidential election

For those of you who are interested in what’s going on over here in the old US of A, the call for a presidential debate on science and technology has been heard.

The debate will be held on April 18 at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.

At least one prominent Washington insider thinks that the debate may not be such a good idea. Whatever the distinction of the signers of the call for the debate, it remains to be seen exactly how the debate will be organized, what questions will be asked, and thus how beneficial the debate will likely be.

I was very surprised to hear that they announced a date during the primaries. I figured that it still needed some more support before gaining enough pressure for the candidates to actually sign up. I don’t really see any of the four remaining hopefuls participating unless it will win them a lot of votes. Who knows, we still might not know the Democratic nominee by that time. Cool concept but I just don’t think it will work out this time. Maybe the next election when candidates are still struggling to raise money and get their voices heard?
