Neurobeat is a music series on Nothing’s Shocking that comes out late on Tuesday nights. Every week a new song is featured to complement my mood or experiences of the previous week. If you’re wondering why in the hell I’m doing this, please read the original Neurobeat for my reasons.
Today was Ada Lovelace Day, as many a blogger (including me!) was celebrating his/her favorite woman impacting technology (and science). With this as a backdrop for the second edition of Neurobeat, I decided to fish out a couple gals whom I think make pretty sweet music. Okay, there are a couple guys in the band too, but whatever. So to the women of science and technology, this post, it’s for you.
The band is Out Hud and the song is “It’s For You”:
Out Hud started out in California, but eventually ended up in NYC. The band has 5 members, and here is where I reveal that by featuring Out Hud after LCD Soundsystem last week, I am actually slowly building the second part of an incestuous 3-band love triangle. Try and keep up. The three guys in the band were also playing around with !!! (see next week’s post) in parallel, but intensified their jamming with Out Hud after the band’s second album Let Us Never Speak of it Again began to really take off in certain circles. But ultimately, Out Hud abruptly ended their tour in 2005 and disbanded after a final show in New York because the bassist decided to concentrate his efforts on a new up-and-coming band named, you guessed it, LCD Soundsystem. There you have it. The intertwining of funk/dance-punk bands in NYC.
I first heard about Out Hud from my girlfriend, who attended that fabled last show in New York and thought they were amazing. Luckily she caught their name since they never surfaced again…
