One of my favourite italian blogs talked about this interesting documentary about american food production. Note that the credits on this trailer are really fun

Tales from a future screen by Marco Boscolo
An attempt to draw a map of the scientific contents available on webtvs and maybe understand what a webtv is. And meeting people, discussing with them, and having fun, of course...

I knew this sounded familiar! I think this movie is based on the Omnivore’s Dilemma, by Michael Pollan. I just recently finished the book and found in absolutely fascinating. It has changed the way I think about food in many ways. The documentary is narrated by Pollan himself. It’s terrifying to learn just how much science goes into making things that we in the US consider every day snacks, from crisps and chips to neon-colored high fructose corn syrup-laden candy. I highly recommend the (slightly) preachy book. It’s really interesting.
So wish that blog you linked to was in English! It looks great. Thanks for posting about this. Will keep an eye out for the documentary.
Err, I guess it’s based in part on the Omnivore’s Dilemma, now that I dig a little deeper. There may be some anti-GMO stuff in this documentary. Will have to see once it’s in theatres!
Yeah Anna, I think it’s placed in between Pollan’s book and a more common “ecologist doc”. Anyway I found it really interesting. I’ll keep an eye on it too.
Trashfood is amazing! I’ll tell Gianna that it’s time for an english version. Maybe on NN…
Seventies Science Fiction time with Charlton Heston.
Soylent Green: You Eat What You Are
Entire film online here, follows a trailer clip.
The “food” connection? Check out the Soylent Green wiki.
Thanks Graham: really interesting suggestions. I hope I’ll watch the movie during next week end.
Eric Schlosser’s name also appeared in teh credits. He wrote “Fast Food Nation” a couple of years ago. Equally fascinating.
