An attempt to draw a map of the scientific contents available on webtvs and maybe understand what a webtv is. And meeting people, discussing with them, and having fun, of course...

Hello everybody! First of all I introduce myself. I’m an Italian science writer based in Bologna. I mainly collaborate with formicablu, a science communication agency in my town (and on which website I run a blog in Italian). During my spare time I use to freelance, writing for some magazines (like for example the Italian version of Scientific American), and contributing at a national radio show called Moebius (on Radio24 – IlSole24Ore). In 2006 I joined two friends’ radio show, Pigreco Party, at Radio Città del Capo, a local radio station in Bologna.

I’ve always been interested in the so-called new media (blogs, podcasts, social networks, etc.) and in the ways they influence the science communication. During last year my colleague Elisabetta Tola and I started a little survey about the relationship between science blogs and journalism. Now I’m really curious to look at the broadcast of scientific contents via webtvs, web-based tv channels and other similar tools.

What I’d like to do with this blog is to draw a map of Science in web-tv and in web-channels, trying to understand where we are now. More often than I thought, on the web you can find more precious information and news than you could think. The problem is that you don’t know where to look. Or you don’t even have the idea of looking… This sort-of-map, won’t be a definitive guide to the world of Science on the Web, but a place where sharing interesting contents and useful tools. Being the web-sea so large, I hope that suggestions, helps and ideas would also come from “my three or four readers”.

          Wow, Marco! That’s wonderful!
As you know, I am writing from Italy, where politics, university, education, research etc. etc. are as they are. So, let me say:

          “Good night, and good luck”

          See you in the blogosphere.
          Ciao
          Daniele

Not sure this comment went in so I apologise if I’m repeating myself.

I love the sound of this project, Marco. I frequently get lost on the web (and not even sure of my way round the Nature Network), so would appreciate some guidance.
