    • Six State Science Survey: Part 2 - Denver

      Saturday, 20 Sep 2008 - 13:57 UTC

The Denver Post reaches 254,058 people every day, giving the Post the 30th highest circulation in the country. Part 2 of the survey looked at the latest Sunday edition.

The main section had one article about a Massachusetts program using old fishing gear to produce electricity and another profiling the winners of the Albert Lasker Medical Research Awards and their work. The local section had a cover story about structural problems of a local bridge, with a nice little graphic about the principles behind the repairs.

What newspapers do you consider science-heavy? How many science articles do they feature, just as a base for comparison with the ones you describe here? I know that NYT is pretty science heavy, but that’s a gigantic empire of a newspaper. Are there any smaller newspapers that excel at science, either in the UK or the US?

Good question Anna – that’s kind of what I was trying to find out. Sure, the NYT with it’s Tuesday science section is great, but what about more local (but still large and relevant) papers? A few more samples to get through, but so far not too encouraging.
