    • Great Minds...

      From xkcd

I have this dream at least once a month. Apparently that’s normal…Randall said so…

…in my dream, it’s either math class (because I regretfully suck at math), or history (because I nearly became a history major…seriously).

How strange, how the mind works.

My mother has this recurring nightmare of taking her A-level French exam. She took this exam in about 1954.

@Caryn: I have nightmares of physics every time I trip over something…bloody gravitational attraction…

1954? my mother wasn’t even born then…but um..yea i can relate about the recurring nightmares from undergrad, where I draw a blank on an entire calculus exam or don’t have a presentation/project ready for class.

I have only ever had exam-panic dreams in the week leading up to one, where I dream that I wake up on the morning of the exam, and then run into all kinds of obstacles in making my way to the exam, until I wake up for real, at which point I panic about having missed the exam and need a few minutes to realize that it’s not until next week. I hate those dreams – not for the subject matter, but because I’m not used to not knowing that I’m dreaming. It’s annoying!

My only exam nightmare was during revision for my undergrad finals. I dreamed that I was sitting in the exam hall and we were told to begin, but my desk was so messy that I couldn’t find the question paper under all the loose pages of notes and other crap. I searched for it for ever, and finally found it just in time to read the first question. And then we were told to put our pens down and hand in our answers.

I woke up, sweaty and panicky, at 3 am, and promptly started to tidy my room.

I’m still a very messy-desk person, but it doesn’t bother me as much as it used to.

I still occasionally have the one where I’m in fourth year, I’m taking some course or other (usually Calculus, which I took in first year, whatever), the exam is impending, I haven’t been to class/don’t know where the class is/haven’t cracked the textbook, it’s too late to drop the course, and even if I did I wouldn’t graduate on time because I’d be one credit short.

Often, the setting of this dream looks remarkably like my high school.

Strangely, I never have the dream where I barely pass second-year intro to Molecular Biology. Oh, wait, that wasn’t a dream.

You may be relieved to know that I’m fully clothed at all times in these dreams.

Cath> I’m usually wearing clothes but sometime it’s been the “skirt has accidentally hiked up in the back/tp on your shoes/something else that really is bad[stain exactly there and I haven’t realised that when i stand in front of tonnes of people…” Stress!

You have dreams in which you are in your underwear? Oooh, you’re lucky. I dream about having dreams like that.

Usually before exams (uni, grad school), I have dreams of being chased by some momster (T-rex, skeletal zombie dragon, albino scorpion (on Mars Base that one!), and I can’t escape. The moment of inevitable capture is the moment I wake up.

Recently I actually recognised the scenario in the dream and took control. Was my first lucid dream experience, where i was able to control the dream. I can now do that most times I dream. But it means I sleep less deeply nowadays :/

I often have the dream where there is some vital document that I need for work. I know I saw it on my desk last week but it is no longer there, nor in my bag, nor at home anywhere. It just vanished.

No, wait, that wasn’t a dream. That is a regular occurrence ;-(
