Christopher R. Cederroth's profile

I'm male and 31

What I do

I have recently accomplished my PhD thesis. The work originated thanks to an initiative of the National Research Programm 50 on endocrine disruptors for which Dr. Serge Nef, my supervisor, received a grant. I started my PhD in Medical Biology in October 2004 in the laboratory of sexual development in Geneva, Switzerland.

Interests

endocrine disruptors, metabolism, reproduction, soy, phytoestrogens, diethylstilbestrol … the more I learn, the more enthousiasm and endeavour I will have in my work.

Projects

The main interest of the laboratory remains male sexual development and therefore one of my projects aims at indentifying the molecular mechanisms by which exposure in utero to xeno-estrogens such as diethylstilbestrol act on the developing male sexual organ to inhibit testicular descent (cryptorchidism) and induce testis dysgenesis.

The second topic concerns a weaker endocrine disruptor : phytoestrogens. While assessing the effects of exposure to dietary soy on fertility, we observed than male mice exposed to doses at levels found in humans are leaner and have improved glucose tolerance. Now I have to unravel what are the molecular mechanisms that lead to such phenotype …
