Henry Gee was educated at the Universities of Leeds (B.Sc. Genetics and Zoology, 1994) and Cambridge (Ph. D. Zoology, Bovidae from the Pleistocene of Britain, 1991). He joined Nature as a reporter in 1987 and is now Senior Editor, Biological Sciences. His manuscript portfolio includes evolutionary developmental biology, palaeontology, taxonomy and systematics and other aspects of comparative and integrative biology. He also edits the Futures science fiction column.

Interests

Henry Gee’s interests include playing blues and rock organ, gardening, beach-combing and writing. A noted Tolkienist, he currently edits Mallorn, the Journal of the Tolkien Society. He has written a number of books including Deep Time: Cladistics, the Revolution in Evolution, Jacob’s Ladder: The History of the Human Genome, The Science of Middle-earth, A Field Guide to Dinosaurs (with Luis V.
