I am pleased to announce that I have seen the rough cut, with thanks to Mr G. S. of Glasgow, who is compiling the soundtrack even as I write – and it’ll be coming to a video-sharing site near you soonish. There is talk of a World Gala Premiere at the next Nature Networks Science Online bash…
The cast, in order of appearance, is as follows:

Bloke In Pub: Trevor Harrison-Phipps
Another Bloke In Pub: Trevor’s mate Steve
Heidi the Dog: Herself
Man on Beach with Dog: Himself
Chickens: Hermione, Luna, Bracken, Bluebell, Charlie and Lola
Rabbit (billed as ‘Guinea Pig’): Beelzebun Demon Bunny of DOOM
The Rev Dr Ezekiel Gee: Himself
Narrator Who Sounds Almost But Not Quite Entirely Unlike David Attenborough: Itself
Erika Cule: Herself
An Historian: Mr F. N. of Mill Hill.Last updated: Wednesday, 10 Jun 2009 - 20:31 UTC

Thanks, Dr Gee.
Since we last spoke, I’ve got the soundtrack sussed out up to about 4’32" and from 9’06" to the close.
The above information will be rather literally cemented into the Closing Titles sequence (thanks Henry) which is my next task, after dropping in some more orchestral nuggets in the bits I’ve not musically chartered yet.
NB – CISB’09 Team Members can log into the Google Doc here as from the onset.
A premiere! Excellent. I’ve always wanted to go to one of those.
A World Gala Premiere, even! Whatever will we wear?!

Update 3.45787
All of team CISB’09 have been sent a link to the rough draft. Positive feedback – phew. One suggestion was made which I’ll pass onto el Producer.
That’s the film-score in the bag and I’ll fire off the relevant data to the relevant people.
Just received a text from Trevor Harrison-Phipps, Producer of Cromer: Darwin’s Lost Weekend. He’s en route home to Bromley, Kent with the crew of 20 who’ve just completed the National (UK) Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for the Charity, MEAK
I’ve informed him of talk of a World Gala Premiere. He’s in Greece until 25th August so can’t make it in person. He’ll pre-record something instead. Henry, we’ll need to have someone assist you in doing the same.

One is
limitless, customaryreliably informed that the final version of “Cromer: Darwin’s Lost Weekend” is being cut this Thursday. I’ll betattooed on my own buttock/arm/leg of choiceprovided with a copy on DVD in time for it’s World Gala Premiere (film, not tattoo) in London on 24th August. Thereafter, there more than probably will be further showings at Film Festivals near and far co-ordinated by the filmakers.Of the two of them, only one (see above) will be able to attend on the 24th in person.
The full version of the final cut as from the onset, will be free to watch/download via the web (under a CC-BY-NC), but in the meantime, I present again the The Making Of ahead of broad & general release of this rather interesting film.
Where in London is the premiere? Empire Leicester Sq, or Odeon Leics Sq? The back room of the Galapagos Arms?
Right, where and when will be the premiere? At Science Online London (August 22th), the day before in a special event as part of the London science tour, or…?
The back room of the Galapagos Arms?
Or maybe even the nearest IKEA ?. Oh, the anticipation…..
But srsly, the plan is a showing at the RI. I’ll need to check again with the folks in charge though, but things are looking good.
I also am required to ensure that lighting/audio is configured for the big screen, otherwise I will be most dramatically killed on the spot by one of the filmakers !!
Sorry, I meant the 22nd, not 24th. My Secretary has just been dismissed.
Oh bother. I shall be in Rye, Sussex on the 22nd.
Frank. Litterally, as we speak, there might be a private showing Trevor’s house in Bromley on Sat during an unrelated BBQ he arranged previously. You and yours are more than welcome to attend this sneak peak. PM me if this would suit.
My Secretary forgot to clarify that the sneak peak will be this Saturday, 11th July.
I have already bought a ticket to London for the World Gala Premiere!
Thanks for the invite. That would be nice (being my birthday) but unfortunately I will be singing in The Sage, in Gateshead. Perhaps I should arrange a private viewing at Mill Hill? ;=)
I myself am looking forward to seeing Henry in evening wear – perhaps something with sequins, or that swan dress, if Björk is finished with it.
shudder
Since Henry’s on vacation at the time, you won’t be seeing him in anything. Interesting suggestion nonetheless about THAT (Björk) dress.
FAINTS
snort. When will the film be ready, Graham ?

That “Flag as inappropriate” button is looking better every second… :P
C’mon Richard, you laid this one on a plate !! Think yourelelf lucky I didn’t clone in el pink crox into the image which I thought about doing just after I created that THING (took only ~ 15 mins).
@Henry. The chaps are meeting again tomorrow to finish it off, so to answer your question, the film should be “ready” by this time tomorrow (but ready for what and where?).
As matters stand, it’s highly likely (tbc) that I will be provided with a copy of the HD version on DVD this Saturday when I’m down in
CromerBromley. On the day, Steven Lillywhite (Camera, Lighting, Sound and Production) will be present, so Steve can explain/discuss where the film is going after it’s World Gala Premiere on the 22nd Aug.
As above, the full version of the final cut as from the onset, will be free to watch/download via the web (under a CC-BY-NC) asap.
Graham – I did not reckon with your l33t ph0to5h0p sk1llz. Nicely done, although as you say the pink crocs would have been the finishing touch.
I am now bleaching my visual cortex. Stings a bit, but worth it.
@Richard. I learned quite a few new top-tips from the “You Suck At Photoshop” series by Donnie Hoyle. My last blog post about this (series) here (go check
The key to this pic was to experiment with Layer, Layer Style and Blending Options which I hadn’t really played about with much before. This seems to have worked ??
Just back from
CromerBromley and yesterday’s BBQ as mentioned above.@Henry. The chaps are meeting again tomorrow to finish it off, so to answer your question, the film should be “ready” by this time tomorrow (but ready for what and where?).
In the end, there was no private sneak peak of da film this weekend as Producer #2 (Steve Lillywhite) has one or two minor edits that he wants to make and these will be done next Wednesday.
I came away reliably informed however that a) the film-score has been embedded, 2) the closing titles/credits are in the bag, c) I’ll be sent a copy of the HD version on DVD towards the end of the week and d), a copy will also be made available on Blu-ray in the not too distant future with Blu-ray recording facilities about to be added to the studio’s set-up.
It’s also now clearer to me than before that one cannot “Premiere” a film at Film Festivals if it’s already been released (in this case, YouTube, Vimeo etc,).
As such, my gut instinct is to trust the valued opinion of The Producers, run with the World Gala Premiere on 22nd Aug as above, and take it from there.
Huzzah!
