Quark Expeditions is sending a blogger to Antarctica , and you can vote on their site who you think should go. Currently in third place, but creeping upwards , is GrrlScientist , who has been blogging about science and nature (especially birds) for quite a while. In internet years, we’re talking of centuries here. She was blogging before you even heard of the word. Grrl has proven herself a fabulous and consistent writer, so there is no doubt that she would be great as official blogger. (Besides, she just married NN’s own Bob so she really deserves a break…) All she needs are some more votes .
This contest has been going for a while, and maybe you have already voted for her. That’s super. It’s also possible that you voted for someone else. There are lots of suitable candidates, and some have hundreds of votes, but let’s be realistic: No matter how awesome they are, you know that this far in the game they simply can’t reach the top anymore. But GrrlScientist can! And you can reassign any votes you previously gave to any other blogger on the site to her by signing in again and voting for her.
If you haven’t yet voted for anyone because you’re put off by the registration requirement, don’t worry: I was wary too when I voted weeks ago (June 30), but I have not received any spam or news or whatnot from the site at all, just the one verification e-mail when I signed up. (There’s a way to track if a site sends you spam, and Quark definitely didn’t.)
Never mind Grrl, The Beast will want a break from her by then.
