Since I have nothing better to do a bout of writer’s block (I just mistyped “block” as “blog”), here’s a game for you to play! See, if you all drop your own work and play my game, I won’t be the only one procrastinating, and I won’t feel so bad.
Here’s the deal: I entered the URL of ten Nature Network blogs in Wordle , and saved the resulting word clouds from those blogs. Can you find the ten blogs?
HINTS:
- Six bloggers are female, four are male
- The bloggers are located in seven different countries (one country is represented by three blogs, one by two, and the rest by one each). This is counting locations, not nationalities – several of the bloggers are expats.
- Three bloggers are graduate students
- One blogger works for Nature, one works for another company, and the rest are currently associated with academic institutions.
- These are all active blogs. Not everyone posts every day or every week, but these people regularly log in to write, read, or comment.
Pictures below the fold, guesses in the comments, and answers next week (Monday).
You win absolutely nothing, so I don’t care if you help each other.

Oh, a game, how fun! I was just looking for something to distract me and make me forget about going to the gym. Well the first one’s easy, that must be Alyssa. The second is probably Elizabeth. The rest were more difficult – I’ll have to think a bit…
Fun!
I think D is Jenny. And maybe F is Raf?
G Steffi?
H Audra?
Agree that A is likely Alyssa, B Elizabeth
By the way, I tried to do this with blogs on a certain other blog network, but that really blew up the words “POST” and “READ” and “COMMENT” so it was useless. Yay for Nature Network’s clean RSS feeds.
Do you guys need more hints?
Richard has been guessing a lot of these (correctly) off-site. You don’t want to let him beat you, do you?
Additional hint: one (and only one) of the above guesses is incorrect.
Nice game! I believe I’m in there too:)
E is Sabbi
The ones that haven’t received any guesses yet (right or wrong) are C, I and J. Funnily, that list contains two of the five I considered easy when I made this.
Ok, then I’ll have a go at C. Didn’t Jennifer write about cloning and getting lots of nice blue colonies some time ago?
Those words are in D – is that the one you mean?
D is Jennifer- I think J is Henry (monkeywrench?) And I is you truly, Eva?
oh, I want to play but the ones I thought of have already been suggested…. hm… hopefully I’ll have more time later on today ;) that J should be on the tip of my tongue though, viruses and vaccines and alll….
Oops, yes, I meant that D is Jennifer – I guess I have to go back and re-learn the alphabet…
Summary of guesses so far:
A. Alyssa’s blog
B. Elizabeth’s blog
C. [not yet guessed]
D. Jenny’s blog
E. Sabbi’s blog
F. Raf’s blog
G. Steffi’s blog
H. Audra’s blog
I. Eva’s blog
J. Henry’s blog
Six are correct. The incorrect ones are not merely switched, they’re just not part of the game.
I am pretty sure G is not me, I think it must be Yi Zeng’s.
