A gynaecologist in Belgium has managed to film the moment of human ovulation for the first time. The process took about 15 minutes, and from the stills on the BBC website looks uncannily like a sea anemone enjoying some bubble gum. The photos are apparently in this week’s New Scientist; I usually receive my copy about a week after publication, so I’ll just have to be happy with the Beeb’s version for now.
Now here’s the part that will annoy all the ovulation experts out there. The doctor who filmed the ovulation wasn’t even trying – he was just perfoming a routine hysterectomy and happened to notice what was going on.
