I like the California Raisins cover version of “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” better than the Creedence Clearwater Revival original

Not that this is my area of expertise but even I was vaguely aware that Creedence Clearwater Revival were not the first to record this song… Gladys Knight and the Pips got to No. 2 in the US with it in 1967 while Marvin Gaye’s more famous cover reached No. 1 a year later. CCR’s cover didn’t appear until 1970.
None of the both negates your personal preference of course!
Ouch. And to think, I was just trying to make a joke about the California Raisins…
Even I knew that Marvin Gaye once sung this song, though I don’t think I know of any of the other versions ;-)
Motown artists pwn all the rest, IMO. Though I love the way Fogarty sings “I HOOIID it through the grape. Vine.”
CCR had a number of excellent hits in their own right, including Fortunate Son, Bad Moon Rising, and Have You Ever Seen the Rain.
Bad Moon Rising is the best.
