Here are some amazing pictures from a new National Geographic documentary called “Extraordinary Animals in the Womb.” Using HD cameras, ultrasounds and advanced computer modeling, producer Peter Chinn has created some of the most detailed and accurate images of developing animals to date. The show follows on the success of “Animals in the Womb,” which detailed the development of elephant, dolphin, and dog fetuses. The extraordinary animals, premiering in 2009, include a parasitic wasp, red kangaroo, lemon shark and emperor penguin. I don’t know if I’m crazy, but I think these guys are unbelievably cute. Don’t you?

This embryonic Emperor Penguin looks out of this world!

It’s hard to find this adorable unborn Lemon Shark scary.

Parasitic wasp larvae in a caterpillar. Ok – this one isn’t cute.

Aw! Look at the little Red Kanagroo roo!

Beautiful! But we don’t ‘love’ them because they’re cute; they’re cute because (if) we love them. I think it’s easy to find that unborn shark scary – look at the jaws on it! I’m reminded of how an unborn Great White (I think) will eat its siblings in the womb. I like the kangaroo though, which has clamped itself ex utero to a teat in the pouch. Fascinating – thanks.
Aw, you mean you find that wittle-bitty guy scary? But he’s so tiny!…OK, I guess I might be a bit blinded by my own love for them… I can’t wait to see this show in March. It looks fantastic!
Christie – cuteness is in the eye of the beholder. Now these are cute.
Embryo sharks are not cute. Interesting? Certainly. Fascinating? Indubitably. But not cute.
Well I for one agree wholeheartedly with the title of this post. Pan fried, with a nice merlot…
I do love the guinea pigs (watch out: the middle one is getting squished!) but the shark is also cute.
AWWW those guys are super-cute!
… and I could be a bit weird. I find just about anything that’s a baby is cute – no matter what species it is.
