oh, I appear to have mislaid her, along with my walking stick. I would like to thank whichever kind souls nominated my piece Someone should invent at a device to look at the micro world and those who voted for it to be included in Open Lab 2008. I blush to be considered in the same company as my fellow Nature Network bloggers who have also been included.
All the pets and family members kidnapped by my agents to procure your votes will be returned unharmed, as promised.
The post looked at modern the media habit of featuring large science projects to the almost total exclusion of all else. If the micro world gets a flagellum in the door it is often only in relation to a story that affects humans: an (ill-named) superbug or the promise of a gene therapy cure. The mainstream media perception of what is considered worth reporting is something that Ugly and I will be returning to in the coming year. In the meantime if there is anything that correspondents feel might need my rheumy eye turning on it, the chazdarwin [at] googlemail [dot] com will be delighted to hear it. I have found my walking stick, and no agent was found with it. Agents may apply to the same address.
The full list of Open Lab 2008 winners can be seen here at the blog of the estimable Mr Bora Zivkovic, without whom the scientific blogosphere would be a much more dull, less connected place. And a word of appreciation to NN’s other renaissance woman (scientist, novelist and chanteuse) Jenny Rohn who is editrix of Open Lab 2008.
Dear Mr Darwin,
Enjoying I am your unique choice of word order, this afternoon.
Thank you Mr Dunckley. The excitement of being included in Open Lab caused that slight problem, now corrected. Had I known that I would have to learn Hyper Text Markup Language (how the language has coarsened since your ancestors recited Beowulf around the fires in Anglo Saxon Dinkley) to have my post included, I might have made less of an effort.
