I’ve just reviewed Fern Elsdon-Baker’s book The Selfish Genius which, I think, gives a very balanced and carefully non-aggressive analysis of the problems with Richard Dawkins’ work and his approach to public understanding of science.
I’m fascinated to see just how vituperative the responses are on Dawkins website to Philip Ball’s review of the same book are. They are just like the responses that you get from religious fundamentalists about a book or movie they’ve never seen but feel they have to react against – almost every one of the comments bears no resemblance to what’s in the book itself.
It’s sad and a little scary.
I’m reviewing the same book for Another Magazine. I shall expect the same idiotic responses from the Dawkins Youth.
Interesting review—I’m adding the book to my reading list.
