Just blogged in the other place about Simon Singh and the lawsuit taken out on him by the BCA (British Chiropractic Association).
I suspect you all know about it – but if you don’t, please take a look. London-based Naturati may fancy popping along to the support meeting on Monday…
Hey, thanks Brian. I didn’t know about it. Unbelievable!
Incidentally, I’ve just heard on the news about the conviction of the fascists who attempted to firebomb the home of the publisher of The Jewel of Medina.
Ben Goldacre wrote an interesting piece on this pointing out that Singh’s article was perhaps a little flawed but that the BCA reaction is wholly inappropriate.
I may be able to make it to the meeting on Monday night. Anyone else round NN considering it?
I am only just catching up after a few days’ away last week, so missed this, but I’ve set up a Nature Network Opinion forum entry about one aspect of this story – that of how well scientists do understand the legal implications of what they write. The Internet makes this of pressing concern, given that an article can in principle be considered as “published” in any country where it can be downloaded, therefore subject to that country’s laws. I hope that some Nature Network users will contribute to the forum.
I blogged about this too a week or so ago – just my personal view, but Simon was kind enough to write to me and thank me!
