The first edition of Scientia Pro Publica is up. It’s the new blog carnival with lots of scientific goodies (and something naff about phenology). So go along and see what’s new!
The next edition will be in two weeks, so when you’ve blogged something about science, submit it to the carnival with the automatic form. It’s a good way of getting yourself better known about the blogosphere.

NN had several entries in the last edition (edited by our very own mad-woman1), so let’s try and get some more this year. Or just bombard them with everything we’ve written2.
Now that’s out of the way, I can get back to worrying that I’m not blogging enough. I got discouraged when I found this woman was reading some of my posts:

I like the name
She isn’t entirely mad — just a bit touched. And don’t forget that I wasn’t alone with the editing, or else I’d have been lost.
Speaking of which, The New Scientist just reviewed Open Lab 2008. Praised the book and dissed the concept of science blogging — the latter being a not uncommon response from professional journalists, in my experience. It did set me to wondering: would a ‘best of science journalism’ anthology fare any better from an objective viewpoint? — from what I’ve seen, even occasionally in the hallowed pages of the NS, I’m not so sure.
I saw that review – it seemed so unbalanced (less than half was about the volume) that I wonder if it got severely edited from something larger.
Glad to hear you’ve recovered, anyway. I really should get round to ordering my copy, but I’m not sure where to send it.

That NS review (we read it on my iPhone after the gig last night) was a bit of a stitch up, wasn’t it? Sounds like a journalist worried about his job.
Hm, perhaps I will not miss the OpenLab submission deadline this year. I suppose that means I have to write something though. :P
It feels like it was heavily editted – I wonder if the original was better.
